The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, ETH Zurich is a community of 20,000 people from 80 nations who study, do research or are employed there (approx 7500 employees). The ETH team will involve researchers at the Automatic Control Laboratory (IfA, http://control.ee.ethz.ch/) in the Department of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (D‐ITET, http://www.ee.ethz.ch/). IfA comprises approximately 60 people carrying out research in the theory and application of automatic control. The theoretical work focuses on the modeling, simulation, analysis and control of deterministic and stochastic hybrid systems. Software tools supporting these tasks and also the synthesis of controllers and filters are distributed in the form of the Multiparametric Toolbox (MPT) that has been widely adopted in academia and industry (approximately 30,000 downloads to date). Applications areas of the theoretical methods and computational tools include air traffic management, biological systems, camera networks and, of immediate relevance to the project, power networks.
Role in the Project
ETH Zurich will play a leading role in WP1, leading the effort on the development of methods for dealing with populations in SoS. This effort will be supplemented by the development of software tools and their integration in the engineering framework of WP5. ETH Zurich will apply the resulting methods and computational tools to the use cases under WP5. Finally, part of the ETH Zurich effort will be devoted to dissemination and synthesis of the results and future directions in the analysis and control of SoS.
