Systems of Systems

Systems of systems (SoS) represent a class of complex systems which naturally arise in the domain of systems engineering. The key characteristics of SoS are generally referred to:

  •  Operational independence of the components of the overall system,
  •  Managerial independence of the components of the overall system,
  •  Geographical distribution,
  •  Emergent behavior,
  •  Evolutionary development processes.
Scope of DYMASOS
In the scope of DYMASOS project are the systems of systems that are constituted of (moderate to large) number of complex systems:

  • which possess partial local autonomy,
  • where geographical distribution does not always play a big role but the present systems are tightly interconnected with the streams of material and energy
  • whose emergent behavior is normally viewed as an unwanted feature and should be analyzed and controlled.
